Wednesday, September 24, 2003   Officials say 12 are source of trouble across county The Richland County Sheriff's department will add two more deputies to its force as one-year contracts for full-time deputies in Hankinson and Lidgerwood were accepted by the Richland County Commission Monday. On the one hand, the cities are asking for help with crime problems that aren't getting better. They have a problem with complaints, said Commissioner Tim Campbell Monday morning. On the other hand, about a dozen people are identified as causing most of the trouble. It's hard to justify baby-sitting 12 people for this amount of money, Campbell said. The cost for two new deputies, including wages and benefits, would cost the county about $44,000. Lidgerwood offered to pay $24,000 ($2,000 a month) and Hankinson offered $33,600 ($2,800 a month), said Richland County Sheriff Kim Murphy. Lovely wife's home region in North Dakota.
