Hurricane Post


From Southern Maryland, my brother writes:
Went to the executive building, where the call center is. Earlier, we
converted credit and collections and any other phone we could convert
to a call center phone. We've got about 3 times the usual number of call
center people. We also have an overflow center in Michigan. The call center
ladies will be here all night.

The wind gusts make it hard to walk. It was raining on the way back
and I got soaked. The wind is making this weird noise throught the tower
that holds our communications. I hope is doesn't fall. The worst winds
will be in the next 4-5 hours. I feel pretty safe in the command center. I'm
beginning to worry about wife and kids. I think that the storm will be
far enough west for them to skate the worst.

We've called in most of our crews: too dark and too windy. You CAN'T
send people up poles in this. I think they're still working on sub stations
and feeder lines. We're also working on radio stations because they're
life lines for people. Here are the stats:
