Wednesday, August 27, 2003 Joe Davis Demands Favors"I've got some good news and bad news," Hellman reportedly told the governor when they met behind closed doors at an anti-recall fund-raiser at the Fairmont Hotel.
"I'm giving lots of money against the recall because I don't think it's right, but I'm supporting Schwarzenegger," Hellman said.
"What, after everything I've done for you?" the governor shot back.
Davis evidently thought that he had done Hellman a big favor recently in helping to push Hellman's son-in-law, Robert Dynes, as the new University of California president. The UC regents picked Dynes, UC San Diego's chancellor, in June.
Hellman, a Republican, was shocked at the governor's reaction but held his ground.
"You're pissing me off," he reportedly told Davis, "because you haven't done me any favors at all -- because I haven't asked for any favors, other than that you be a good governor."
